About Ward Mansion

The Ward Mansion was built by one of Conway, Arkansas’s most prominent citizens, Dave Ward, founder of Ward Body Works. Ward was the town’s first industrialist and the business, also known as Ward School Bus Company, was Conway’s largest employer. The company, now International Corporation, is still located in Conway.

The original home built on this site was an elegant frame house that was destroyed by fire in 1950. After the fire Ward said, “I will never again have a house that will burn.” The Ward family used the same foundation to build the present brick home which was completed in 1951.

The new construction resulted in one-foot-fire brick interior and exterior walls, and four-inch concrete floors on top of 12-inch steel beams on the second floor. The finished product is not only safe -- but incredibly quiet.
